After #1 by Amanda Todd (spoilers)
I've told myself time and again that I need to start blogging in English. That's what I'm doing now. This is my first blog-post in English. I really hope you enjoy it:
Tessa Young is a sweet and well-behaved girl. She does well in school and she has a loyal boyfriend. In addition, she got into one of the best colleges out there. Actually it's the college her mother has always wanted her to go to. There's never been a doubt that she had to go to Washington State University. Tessa, being the great daughter she is, chose to please her mother. As Tessa begins in college, she meets people who are far different than her. Steph, her roommate, has piercings and tattoos, which is a bit frightening, but the two girls quickly get along. College is just as expected until Tessa meets Hardin Scott. The man who took her by surprise and led Tessa to realise who she truly was. However, things are never like they seem. Tessa goes through lots of hardship, especially with Hardin, but things do get better and then they don't.
Well well.. let me just be honest. I do not like this book. I don't hate it, but I do think it's lacking so much content. Moreover, there's just way too much drama for me to handle. Tessa and Hardin (trying not to spoil anything here, but it's pretty obvious that something's going to happen between them) keep going in the same freaking circles! And it's just annoying. It gets boring and eventually pretty lame. I mean, come on! I know they're so different from each other, and that's a good thing, but do they really have to fight about EVERYTHING? Another thing is there so-called 'love' for each other. They keep confessing it to each other and that is so cute and all, but really it isn't. I do not really feel their love. Sure, they make sacrifices and they are honest with each other to an instinct, but then again... it just doesn't seem that real to me. The dialogs also seemed pretty boring to me. Maybe because I read the book in Danish, but some of the things that were said just seemed unnatural. At times, I thought "Who would even say that in real life?".
I will stop criticising this novel any further. There were actually some great messages in After. Tessa gives up so much for the man she 'loves'. She changes as a person and becomes more honest when she's with Hardin. She's completely different! And that's what love does to people. Sometimes it changes us for the better. Another person can make us revaluate our beliefs and make us see some things more clearly. Tessa and Hardin change each other. They become better together and they do so much for one another. That's actually really cute.
I must say how much I admire how far Amanda Todd has come. I read After on Wattpadd and it's crazy how she's managed to publish the whole "After"-series. We all know that we aren't gonna love every book that we read and that's completely fine. I also know that many girls really love this series, and I actually think I would have liked this series if I had read it when I was a bit younger. Lol, but honestly. This book just wasn't my cup of tea.
