Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

Red Queen takes us to a dark future where the color of your blood determines the quality of your life. Silver blood makes you part of the elite. They have speciel abilities like being able to control fire or water. Some even have the power to control other people. Silvers live a content life as they oppress those who are born with red blood.
Reds are destined to a hardworking life with little to no luxuries. If they don't have a proper job at the age of 18, they are sent to war. A war between Silvers that is being fought by Reds. It's an unjust world.
Mare Barrow is a Red girl. Her three older brothers have been sent to war and soon she will too. But then Mare finds out that she isn't like everyone else. In fact, she is able to do things no one has ever heard of before. Mare Barrow may be able to change the world as they know it.

Well what a crazy story. This dystopian world kinda scared me. It's one that shows us what could happen if we don't learn from the past - and repeat past mistakes. Oppressing people is never right and should never take place. All men are equal. And that's final. However, that is not the case in this Red and Silver world. The Silver elite is powerful. They are stronger than the Reds. It seems like things are never changing. Mare Barrow brings a small light and hope that the world can actually change. Think of how that must be? She is born and raised as a Red girl living in poverty. She is used to a simple life of hard work. I mean that's all she knows. Then all of a sudden she discovers that she has these crazy powers. Mare's whole world changes and with that comes a lot of sacrifices. She enters the world of the Silver Elite that is full of betrayal and lies. It's hard to know who you can trust. Everything is new to Mare and all she really wants is justice for the Red.
The lines anyone can betray anyone is repeated throughout the novel. And I gotta say that that must be the message of Red Queen.

I found Mare to be strong-willed. And she's definitely a survivor. She quickly accostsumes herself to the life of the Silvers - even though it's the complete opposite of what she knows. But then again, all she has done her whole life is survive. That's the life of the Red people.
I also admire how Mare stayed true to herself. Even though she had to get used to surrounding herself with selfish Silvers, she still knew right from wrong. She's a very brave and unselfish girl. I love characters like Mare who are compassionate and keep fighting for what's right even though it seems impossible. Those are the real life-changers.
