INSURGENT by Veronica Roth
I finally came around to read Insurgent. At first I wasn't all that amazed by the book because I had already watched the movie (which I can't even remember now). Although it did excite me and I've always been captured by the love between Tris and Tobias. I think they're so cute together and in this book so much drama happens between them. Their love is really tested and oh my heart.. I honestly felt like my heart was torn in peaces at some points. But how about I start out with a short summary:
"Divergent" ended on a train with Tris, Tobias, Marcus (Tobias' psycho dad), Peter (Tris' enemy) and Caleb (Tris' brother) heading towards the Amity headquarters. Here they stayed for some time, but rules were set out for them. Since Amity is all about keeping the peace, they could not start any conflicts. - or else they would be thrown out. As we know, the Dauntless are very loud and not afraid to start conflicts. What's bad is the fact that Peter is there and he tried to kill Tris. And what's even worse is the fact that Tobias was hit by his father, Marcus, when he was younger and he transferred to Dauntless to get away from him. There are many unsolved problems and conflicts are doomed to occur. As things get a bit worse, Tris and Tobias flee. They end up with the factionsless who have completely changed. Tris finds out that Tobias has been keeping something from her and more bad things happen. There's some fighting here and there. New alliances are made and more secrets come out. Throughout the entire novel, Tris has a lot of struggles especially with grief and she has almost lost all hope. However... a big secret that many have died for roams around the corner. A secret that will change everything they know.
What's great about this book is the fact that we learn more about Tris as a character. She is honestly such an amazing girl. So head-strong, intelligent, conscientious (I had to look that up) and strong. I'm so amazed by her. Tris has gone through sooo much in such a short time. She's only 16! And already she's lost her parents and her home. Everything's changing for her and still she keeps on fighting for others. At a point she's even willing to give up her life for anyone. Which is a bit insane, but that's only because she's been through so much. Tris is filled with so much pain and grief. She's hurt and has such a hard time forgiving herself for something she can't change. I think Tris is admirable as a character. I really do think that. And she's also relatable in many ways. At times I thought she was too harsh in her way of thinking. But then again.. she's dealing with serious "issues". She's an important piece in this war. The way she handles things can be questionable. However in the end she always seems to be doing the right thing. She's smart. After all she does have an aptitude for Erudite and you could really tell that!
The language and the writing style was great. I really like Veronica Roth as an author. She has an amazing imagination and her writing style intrigues me. It was very fitting for this type of novel and Roth has honestly done such a great job creating realistic characters. I couldn't help liking all of her characters. Well, the ones that were "good". Like Uriah, Marlene, Lynn, Zeke, Christina, Cara and so on. They were different from each other. And they all really lived up to being representatives of their old and new factions.
Insurgent was an exciting and entertaining read. As we discover more about society, the characters and the history I was amazed by the way Roth manages to create such a fascinating "world". Much more can be said about this book and I highly recommend it!
