The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank

The story of Anne Frank is one that has interested me a great deal since the very first time I heard about it as a 14-year-old. And now, at the age of 20, after having watched the movie and read about the diary, I have finally finished reading it on January 1st 2019.

The Diary of a Young Girl is a real diary written from 1942 to 1944 by the jewish girl Anne Frank who grew up during the Second World War. The story takes place in Amsterdam where Anne lived with her mother, Edith, Father, Otto, and older sister, Margot. In the beginning, Anne describes her life before going into hiding. She's an honest and bright girl who loves life and thinks a lot about her own character and behaviour. She has many friends and is very active. When the family is forced into hiding, fear and anxiety follows. They move into the secret annexe located in Otto Frank's former workplace with another family, the Van Daans. Later Mr. Dussel, a dentist, moves in as well. In her diary, Anne describes her feelings, the events in the annex, the quarrels and her thoughts about love and life. She even falls in love.
Sadly, the eight people in the secret annexe were discovered and sent to concentration camps in the year of 1944. The only survivor of the war was Otto Frank who managed to share Anne's story that has become an international bestseller.

This is a story that has truly touched me! Getting to read about the everyday lives of the inhabitants in the secret annexe was very interesting and sometimes even humorous. I love Anne Frank's writing and vivid descriptions of everyone and their actions. Anne Frank had me moved more than once throughout this book. Her thoughts are incredible for a girl so young. It's hard to even fathom how she could have a mind so great and filled with wisdom at her age. I for sure know that I didn't think like that. The story about Anne Frank and what she and her family went through during the Second World War is an important one that shows us why history can't repeat itself. It shows us that racism and prejudice lead to terrible things and that we should always show tolerance, acceptance and understanding for all.

Anne Frank was an incredible girl with a big heart. She was thoughtful, self-critical and very clever. She was probably smarter than most people! She loved everything about life and even though she had very little freedom in her last years of life, she still managed to stay positive, hopeful and kind. She still believed that all people are good at heart. Anne Frank is a legend and a beautiful human that teaches us that we must always be open and tolerant. Gosh, I wish I could have met her!
